Dalian, China – The "Bank of China Cup" 2024 National Squash Open successfully concluded at the Xigang Sports Center in Dalian. As the sport of squash is known for its dynamic and fast-paced nature, the event lived up to expectations by delivering thrilling matches across various categories.

Event Overview:

Celebrated as the "king of indoor sports," squash is unaffected by seasons or weather and is played on a compact court that enhances the game's speed and complexity. This year's tournament started on April 18 and ran through April 21, featuring nearly 400 matches across three days.

In a significant development for the sport, squash was included in the Olympic Games for the first time in October 2023 and will be part of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. This inclusion has given a substantial boost to the sport's profile and has opened new opportunities for player development in China.


Competition Highlights:

The 2024 Open attracted almost 200 participants from various cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong. The players competed in multiple 11 categories: Men’s and Women’s Selection Groups, Open Groups, and Youth Groups (U11-U17).

Hangzhou Squash Team, Peking University Squash Team, Beijing Ivy Squash Club, Royal Marshall Squash Club, Dalian Snow Wolf Squash Club and other clubs led the players to participate.

The event showcased top-tier squash talent and served as a crucial platform for selecting national athletes who will train for the upcoming Asian Squash Team Championships in June, also set to be held in Dalian.

Results:

Au Zhenming from Hong Kong won the men's selection group and Lu Chunjing won the women's selection group.

Two men's players, Xu Tong and Shenyang, and three women's players, Liu Jia, Zhao Wanping and He Lijie, entered the national squash training team.
