China Initiates National Squash Team Selection for Olympic and Asian Games Preparation

Beijing, July 26, 2024 - With the aim of bolstering its competitive prowess for the 2026 Asian Games and the 2028 Olympic Games, the Small Ball Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China has announced the commencement of the 2024 National Squash Training Team Selection and Trial Program. This strategic initiative underscores China's unwavering commitment to nurturing squash talents and enhancing its international competitiveness.

 

Targeting a breakthrough at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, the Small Ball Sports Management Center is embarking on a multi-phased selection process that encompasses a comprehensive evaluation across multiple dimensions, including physical fitness, technical abilities, psychological resilience, and past injury records. Commencing in August 2024, the selection will unfold in three distinct stages, held at prestigious domestic sports academies and training bases in Shanghai and Tianjin. Each phase focuses on unique aspects of the athletes' performance and potential, ensuring a thorough and scientific approach to the selection.

Notably, this selection places particular emphasis on talent succession planning and long-term vision. Beyond identifying athletes poised for imminent success in the Asian Games and Olympics, the Center is actively scouting and nurturing promising young talents. It aims to establish a well-structured talent pool spanning multiple age groups, providing a continuous flow of energy for the sustainable development of squash in China.
